Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is provides assistance and support through established programs in local communities around the world. The major programs of the Sorority are based on a Five Point Programmatic Thrust: Economic Development; Educational Development; International Awareness and Involvement; Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement. To help the organization achieve its programmatic thrust, and specifically, to enhance its ability to transform lives through an uncompromising commitment to service, leadership, and empowerment, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. connects with partner organizations that exemplify the tenets of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. such as March of Dimes.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and March of Dimes officially established a partnership in 2013 to advocate for reduced preterm births, improved health equity, and healthy moms and babies. Together we’re continuing to drive programs and funding that are vital to addressing the maternal and infant health crisis and racial/ethnic disparities that affect birth outcomes in the U.S.
Through our partnership, members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. focus on increasing public awareness about prematurity, maternal mortality and morbidity, infant mortality, and raising funds through participation in March for Babies. One of Delta’s founders died during childbirth, and as a way to honor her, during founders’ days in 2021, the sorority raised more than $186,000 to improve the health of moms and babies. They also collected over 16,000 books for parents to read to their children in NICUs across the country in 2022.
