• Persons in poverty are defined as those who make less than 100% of the poverty threshold established by the US Census Bureau. The poverty threshold for a family of three was $19,337 in 2016 and $19,749 in 2017. 
• During 2016-2018 (average), about 1 in 4 children under the age of 19 (22.8%) in Alabama were living in families with incomes below the Federal Poverty Level.
