Please join us for the March of Dimes MA annual Black Ties for Babies Gala on Friday, November 3rd at the Mandarin Oriental, Boston. There will be a VIP gathering, followed by a reception and a meaningful program, highlighting our sponsors and Ambassador families. Be ready to take part in bidding on a few fabulous auction items. We expect to welcome more than 250 prominent leaders in the greater Boston community to raise funds to support infant and maternal health.

EVENT LEADERSHIP

Thanks to the leadership of our volunteer chairs and committee members, we are honored to present this year's event. After months of hard work, these volunteers have taken the event to new heights. The March of Dimes and the families we support are grateful for the generosity and effort of the team that made this evening possible.

2023 Black Ties for Babies Co-Chairs: 
Dallas Reed, M.D. & Stephen Hall 


Dallas Reed, M.D., FACMG, FACOG is a double-boarded obstetrician/gynecologist and medical geneticist and works as an associate professor of OB/GYN and Pediatrics at Tufts University School of Medicine. Beyond being a professor, she’s the division chief of genetics; director of perinatal genetics; and attending physician in OB/GYN at Tufts Medical Center.

Dr. Reed’s has a passion for equity and inclusion, telemedicine, genetics education, and providing sensitive and culturally competent care to women and families during pregnancy and when confronted with uncertainty around a genetic diagnosis.

Stephen P. Hall is a trial lawyer and former Certified Public Accountant (CPA) who applies a business-minded approach to complex business disputes.

Throughout his legal career, Stephen has been actively involved in and served as a leader in the various bar associations.  Most notably, he is currently serving as President-Elect of the Boston Bar Foundation and has previously served as President of the Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association, a state-wide bar association focused on advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in the legal industry.  In addition, Stephen devotes his time to pro bono affairs, including assisting the Kids In Need of Defense (KIND) and the Innocence Project with criminal appeals involving factual innocence.

FDR Humanitarian Award 

Each year, March of Dimes honors members of the community who show an exceptional commitment to the health of all moms, birthing persons, and babies with our Franklin Delano Roosevelt Humanitarian Award. This year our honoree is a powerhouse in the field of Black Maternal Health and a fierce advocate for the March of Dimes. We are thrilled to announce our 2023 FDR Humanitarian Award Honoree, Dr. Ndidiamaka Amutah-Onukagha. 

Dr. Amutah-Onukagha
is the Julia A. Okoro Professor of Black Maternal Health in the Department of Public Health and Community Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine.

She is the Founder and Director of the Center of Black Maternal Health and Reproductive Justice (CBMHRJ), and of the Maternal Outcomes of Translational Health Equity Research (MOTHER) Lab. Dr. Amutah-Onukagha’s research investigates maternal health disparities, infant mortality, reproductive health and social justice, and HIV/AIDS as experienced by Black women. She also serves as the Assistant Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the university’s Public Health and Professional Degree Programs.

A well-published author, Dr. Amutah-Onukagha’s research has been presented in over 70 manuscripts, 6 book chapters, a best-selling book on Amazon, and a textbook on culturally responsive evaluation. Her research has also been featured across a series of platforms, including, The Lancet, TedX, USA Today, and most recently broadcasted on MSNBC. She also serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Women’s Health Issues. Currently, Dr. Amutah-Onukagha is the Principal Investigator of two multi-year studies on maternal mortality and morbidity, an R01 funded by National Institutes of Health and an interdisciplinary grant on maternal health equity funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Dr. Ndidiamaka Amutah-Onukagha was an honoree of the 2020 Top 40 under 40 Minority Leaders in Healthcare, as presented by the National Minority Quality Forum. She is a founding member of Birth Equity Justice MA, a board member for the Neighborhood Birth Center in Boston, and a board member for Dr. Shalons’ Maternal Action Project (DSMAP). In 2019, she was honored with the American Public Health Association’s Maternal and Child Health Section’s Young Professional of the Year Award. She currently serves as co-chair of the section’s Perinatal and Women's Health Committee.

Dr. Amutah-Onukagha received her Master of Public Health from The George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services before completing her Ph.D. in Public Health from the University of Maryland. She also completed the Kellogg Health Scholars postdoctoral fellowship with an emphasis on community based participatory research and health disparities.
