PeriStats now has data on severe maternal morbidity.These data were obtained from a report published by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau.1

PeriStats now has data on severe maternal morbidity.These data were obtained from a report published by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau.1

Severe maternal morbidity is reported as the number of women with at least one indication of severe morbidity as the numerator 10,000 deliveries.An occurrence of severe maternal morbidity is defined using the CDC-developed definition.A case is identified using 21 hospital discharge procedure and diagnosis codes that indicate a potentially life-threatening condition or maternal complication identified through the 10th revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) diagnosis and procedure codes.Blood transfusions were not included in counts.

These rates are available under the topic "Mortality and Morbidity" and are available at the state and regional levels.
