Updated data on Poverty, Health Insurance, illicit drug use, and Behavioral Risk Factors

PeriStats has been updated with the most up to date data for poverty, health insurance, obesity, smoking, illicit drug use and alcohol use. Poverty has been updated to the 2018-2020 data set while most other variables have been updated to 2019 data, unless otherwise specified.

Health Insurance is updated for both women (15-44 years of age) and children (under 19 years old), by state and the US. The updated data are from the US Census American Community Survey.

For poverty, data is updated for both women (15-44 years of age) and children (under 19 years of age). The data are included for each state, District of Columbia and the U.S. and comes from the Current Population Survey which is sponsored by the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The obesity, smoking and alcohol use data all come from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System and includes all 50 states, territories and the District of Columbia. Updated data includes that for smoking for women (age 18-44), men (age 18 and older), binge drinking for women (age 18-44) and obesity for women (age 18-44). Illicit drug use comes from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and is reported for everyone over age 12, from 2017-2018 data.

On PeriStats, using the data finder tool, the poverty data can be found under the topic area of 'Population' and then under the 'Filter' dropdown option while health insurance, illicit drug use, obesity and smoking can be found under the topic areas corresponding to the name of the indicator.
