• Maternal age is a risk factor for low birthweight, with higher low birthweight rates found among the youngest and oldest mothers in the U.S. 
• In New Jersey during 2014-2016 (average), low birthweight rates were highest for women ages 40 and older (11.5%) and under age 20 (9.9%) . 
• Of all infants born during 2014-2016 (average), 3.3% were to mothers under the age of 20, 39.9% were to mothers ages 20-29 years, 52.3% were to mothers ages 30-39 years, and 4.5% were to mothers ages 40 and older.
