• During 2015-2017 (average), the infant mortality rate (per 1,000 live births) in California was highest for black infants (8.4), followed by American Indian/Alaska Natives (6.4), whites (4.1) and Asian/Pacific Islanders (3.3). 
• Black infants (8.4) were about 3 times as likely as Asian/Pacific Islander infants (3.3) to die during the first year of life during 2015-2017 (average).
