Elevance Health Foundation
For more than a decade, Elevance Health Foundation has provided vital support to March of Dimes in the fight for the health of all moms and babies, contributing more than $10 million to our programs aimed at reducing premature births, improving maternal health and advancing health equity. Through its generous support, Elevance Health Foundation has contributed to our initiatives that specifically address issues around access to care and disparities, supporting health care provider training programs and expanding the implementation of effective interventions to promote healthy moms and strong babies.
In 2020, Elevance Health Foundation granted $1.1 million to March of Dimes to close the health-equity gap by addressing racial disparities and social determinants of health that disproportionately affect Black mothers, who are more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes and have premature babies than all other women.
In 2022, we welcomed a new chapter of our relationship with Elevance Health Foundation with a $2.3 million dollar grant, aimed at leveraging and expanding on our Nowhere to Go: Maternity Care Deserts Across the U.S. Report. This new phase of our collaboration will include the development of March of Dimes Maternity Care Deserts: State Supplemental Reports. Our shared goal in this initiative is to drive greater depth and understanding of factors limiting access to maternity care to inform the development and distribution of policy and practice recommendations.
Through the support of Elevance Health Foundation, March of Dimes will produce 52 state-level reports (50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico) slated to be published in 2023, followed by a robust state-level advocacy and awareness campaign to shine a light on local policy solutions for the millions of women who live in maternity care deserts where access to care is limited or non-existent.
