The Ataya Family has been selected as the Ambassador Family of the 2019 March of Dimes Sacramento March for Babies. One of the largest annual fundraising walks in Sacramento March for Babies, presented by Sutter Health, will bring together an estimated five thousand people to raise critical funds to help tackle the biggest health threats to moms and babies.

After an otherwise healthy pregnancy, at 37 weeks, Nadera noticed their baby girl, Mya, wasn’t kicking or moving, so they went to get checked out. After an ultrasound, the doctor came in and said those dreaded words, “I’m sorry, we cannot find a heartbeat.” In the midst of their grief, the family decided to be a part of the Sacramento March for Babies. It was not just a way to honor their daughter, but also a way to give back. This year marks the 8th walk that Mya’s family will participate. The Atayas march to remember and celebrate Mya and to raise money, so more babies have the opportunity to thrive, grow-up and reach their full potential. “We are honored to serve as the 2019 Sacramento March for Babies Ambassador Family,” said Nadera Ataya. “To this day, I believe that my healing began during my first March for Babies when I saw so many families who had similar stories to ours. I find it tremendously gratifying that Mya’s memory lives on and that the money we raise to support the groundbreaking work of March of Dimes helps other families avoid the loss we experienced.”

“We are grateful to have the support and dedication of the Ataya Family who has participated in March for Babies for eight years and has raised more than $13,000 to improve the health of all moms and babies,” says Jennifer Ottolini, Sacramento Valley March of Dimes Executive Director. “March for Babies is a day for everyone. Together we hope for the day when all moms and babies are healthy. We remember those babies we lost. We celebrate every baby.”

March of Dimes gives 4 million babies born each year the best possible start. Nearly half a million are born prematurely or with birth defects. Premature birth and its complications are the largest contributors to infant death in the U.S., and pregnancy-related death has more than doubled over the past 25 years.

Sacramento March for Babies takes place Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the State Capitol. On-site registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with the three-mile walk kicking off at 8:30 a.m. Start a team with your company, family or friends.  Register at for this walk or the virtual walk.
