The Nelmes family is one of our North Bay mission families. Here is their story as told by his mom, Leanne.
"Being a first time mom to two preterm but healthy boys was the greatest feeling in the world. Words can't describe the love and pure happiness that day brought to me. 18 days later our time was cut short with our first born twin Landon- he was taken too fast and too soon by a disease called Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC), the inflammation and death of intestinal tissue.
"Landon had been loved the day we heard the news we were expecting till the moment we held him to his final rest, and will be forever. The hardest thing we have ever experienced was watching Landon fight as hard as he did to stay with us when, in the end, that was not his fate. Our superman, our strong little feisty baby who did nothing but bring joy and make us smile during his 18 days here on earth, will truly and forever be missed.
"We walk to raise awareness of NEC, the second most common cause of mortality in premature infants. No mother, no twin should have to suffer this type of loss and the March of Dimes foundation supports this. Over the last ten years alone they have funded more then 3.5 million dollars to intestinal related illness and NEC research and will forever have our support."
