Hundreds of families and local business leaders will join together on Saturday, May 11 at Howarth Park in Santa Rosa, CA. for the 2019 March of Dimes North Bay March for Babies presented by Sutter Health. March of Dimes gives 4 million babies born each year the best possible start. Nearly half a million of them are born prematurely or with birth defects. Premature birth and its complications are the largest contributors to infant death in the U.S., and pregnancy-related death has more than doubled over the past 25 years. March for Babies® bands communities together to raise critical funds to support March of Dimes’ mission: to fight for the health of all moms and babies.

From start to finish, March for Babies celebrates families with special moments. The Cremidis Family of Novato, California has been selected as the 2019 North Bay March for Babies Ambassador Family. Sacha and Emily Cremidis were so excited about their pregnancy, but their son, Sebastian Francis was heartbreakingly stillborn. Every year since then, Emily and Sacha have marched to remember and celebrate Sebastian Francis and to raise money, so more babies have the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.

“We are honored to serve as the 2019 North Bay March for Babies Ambassador Family,” says Emily Cremidis. “To this day, I believe that my healing began when I finally read the March of Dimes pamphlets that the nurse gave me. I do not wish this experience for anyone, but the pamphlets made me feel less singled out for misfortune.” Emily continues, Since the loss of my son, I find myself reflecting that there’s beauty even in the most difficult circumstances. When we lost Sebastian, I noticed: there was collateral beauty in the reassurance that Sacha and I were the strongest of teams, that we had the most loving and compassionate community supporting us, and that we had found an organization in which we could honor Sebastian and advocate for healthy moms and babies. There continues to be collateral beauty, too. I have counseled friends who have suffered miscarriage and stillbirth. I’ve shared the pamphlets and talked about finding ways to honor these little lives. On May 11th, Sacha, Sebastian’s little brother, and I will walk with our North Bay community in our third march. With each walk, we’re advocating for healthy moms and babies and supporting provisions for families who are looking for their own collateral beauty.”

“When you March for Babies, you make a statement about the world you want to live in -- one in which healthy moms and strong babies are a priority for us all,” says Robert Pinnix, Greater Bay Area March of Dimes Executive Director. It is a day for everyone. Together we hope for the day when all moms and babies are healthy. We remember those babies we lost. We celebrate every baby.”

North Bay March for Babies on-site registration begins on Saturday, May 11 at 8:00 a.m. in Howarth Park. This beautiful, family-friendly walk will kick off at 9:00 a.m.  Before the start of the march, children can take part in the superhero sprint, complete with a purple cape.
