Columbia, SC, August 13, 2015 —

The March of Dimes is seeking families who have been touched by premature birth, birth defects or infant mortality to serve as Ambassadors for the March for Babies 2016 season. Ambassador Families share their story at March of Dimes events and in the media to help promote fundraising for March for Babies—which will be held in the Midlands (Greater Columbia Area) on April 30, 2016. Ambassador families will have speaking opportunities at pre-March for Babies events and meetings beginning in late January. For more information or to apply online, visit or call Ashley Edmunds at (803) 403-8528.

“Ambassador Families are the heart and soul of March for Babies and they demonstrate first hand why it is so important to raise awareness and funds to support vital research and community programs that will help prevent premature birth” said Dan Lebish, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Aflac and 2016 Midlands March for Babies Chairperson.

Premature birth touches nearly 8,000 babies in South Carolina each year. Babies born too soon are more likely to die or face life-long health and developmental consequences. The March of Dimes is committed to reducing this toll by funding research to find the causes and preventions of premature birth and providing comfort and information to families with a baby in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

March for Babies is the March of Dimes premier fundraising event that benefits all babies—those born healthy as well as those who need help to survive and thrive.  In the Midlands (Greater Columbia Area) March for Babies will take place on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 9a.m. at the South Carolina State Fairgrounds. The event is sponsored locally by Aflac, BlueCross BlueShield, Agfirst, Michelin, SCE&G, WLTX, B106, Palmetto Parent, and Columbia Business Monthly.

For more than 75 years, moms and babies have benefited from March of Dimes research, education, vaccines, and breakthroughs. For the latest resources and information, visit Find us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.
