Funds evidence based group prenatal model called Centering Pregnancy
Waterbury, VT, March 05, 2015 —
The March of Dimes will present Rutland Regional Medical Center with a $10,000 check on Thursday March 5, 2015, to fund a new program that will help local women to have healthier pregnancies and birth outcomes.
With the March of Dimes grant money Rutland Regional will be the newest location of a CenteringPregnancy Program. CenteringPregnancy is an evidenced based model of group care that integrates the three major components of care: health assessment, education, and support, into a unified program within a group setting. Eight to twelve women with similar gestational ages meet together, learn care skills, participate in a facilitated discussion, and develop a support network with other group members.
“We are extremely grateful to the March of Dimes for caring about the moms and babies that come to Rutland Regional for their health care,” said Kathleen Craig, MSN, RNC, IBCLC, CENP Director of Women’s Health at Rutland Regional. “With CenteringPregnancy we will be able to offer women a new model of healthcare that will improve the health of our babies.”
March of Dimes has historically funded the CenteringPregnancy model because of their evidence based research and positive health outcomes for pregnancies. Specifically, increased birth weight and gestational age of mothers that deliver preterm, and the satisfaction expressed by both the women and their providers are just a few of the programs successes.
“CenteringPregnancy is one of a small number of programs that we know work to reduce premature birth,” Roger Clapp Executive Director for the March of Dimes said. “Since the evidence has mounted, we have stepped up our investment and are thrilled to make this model available to Rutland Regional.”
