Los Angeles County Chief Executive Officer Sachi A. Hamai has been named chair of the 2019 Los Angeles March for Babies presented by Los Angeles County and Ontario International Airport. March for Babies, which will take place in Los Angeles on April 27, 2019, unites communities to fight for the health of all moms and babies and is the largest annual fundraising campaign of March of Dimes. Los Angeles County has participated in March for Babies for the past thirty-five years, and has been the No. 1 public sector fundraising team in the nation for 11 years straight, raising nearly $10 million.

“I can’t think of a more important cause. The number of babies born prematurely here in California and across the country is increasing, and that is simply not acceptable,” Hamai said. “Our Los Angeles County employees have a long tradition of working hard to help raise awareness of this crucial issue, and I am so proud to lead this year’s march. When you March for Babies, you make a statement that you want to live in a world in which healthy moms and strong babies are a priority for us all.”

She called on local businesses and community leaders to join her by participating in this year’s March for Babies campaign: “March for Babies is a day for everyone to come together and raise critical funds for March of Dimesmission to empower families with programs, knowledge and tools for healthier pregnancies.”

Kari Boatner, March of Dimes Greater Los Angeles Executive Director, said this kind of teamwork is essential. “We are grateful for the incredible dedication of the wonderful employees of the County of Los Angeles to tackle the biggest health threats facing moms and babies. We’re thrilled to have Sachi Hamai serve as our local March for Babies chair as she shares our commitment to moms through every stage of the pregnancy journey, even when everything doesn’t go according to plan.”

March of Dimes gives 4 million babies born each year the best possible start. Nearly half a million of them, are born prematurely or with birth defects. Premature birth and its complications are the largest contributors to infant death in the U.S. and pregnancy-related death has more than doubled over the past 25 years.

Last year’s March for Babies campaign in Greater Los Angeles raised more than $1.8 million. Every March for Babies participant can make a huge difference for families. This year, 3 million people in 400 communities across the United States will participate in this year’s campaign.

Los Angeles March for Babies will take place Saturday, April 27,  2019 at a new location, Grand Park, Los Angeles, CA. On-site registration will begin at 6:30 a.m. with the three-mile walk kicking off at 8:30 a.m. You can sign up today at marchforbabies.org/event/losangeles.
