March of Dimes is pleased to announce the appointment of José van Dijk as Board Chair to the March of Dimes Greater Bay Area Market. José is the Customer Experience Chief of Staff and Chief Transformation Officer for Cisco, the worldwide leader in networking – transforming how people connect, communication and collaborate. As a member of the March of Dimes board, José will serve along others as a volunteer, representing the public in governing the organization and advancing its mission for mom and baby health. She will serve a 3-year term.

Van Dijk, unwavering in her commitment to serve her community, first joined March of Dimes Bay Area board in 2015. “The mission of March of Dimes is both very personal and important to me. My daughter was born 14 weeks early which was unexpected and incredibly difficult. Thankfully, my daughter is thriving, but not all families are as fortunate.” van Dijk continues: “I’m excited to support March of Dimes as this organization seeks innovative solutions to tackle the critical health issues of moms and babies. I am energized by the recent announcement from the March of Dimes Prematurity Research Center at Stanford University that scientists there have developed a new blood test, using biomarkers in maternal blood, that identified (with 75-80 percentage accuracy) pregnant women who would go on to deliver babies up to two months prematurely. As chair of the Bay Area Board, I am mindful of our fundraising responsibilities to fund the life-changing work of March of Dimes. We will look for innovative ways to increase support to improve the health of all moms and babies, especially to address the crisis of premature birth in this country.”

As a member of Cisco’s executive team, van Dijk is responsible for the evolution and execution of the Customer Experience business, where she focuses on leading innovations that drive customer success, strategic initiatives, and profitable growth. Over her 20-year career at Cisco, she has held numerous global leadership positions advancing Cisco programs across the globe. She currently resides in the San José area with her family.

“We’re honored to have José Van Dijk as our Bay Area board chair,” added Robert Pinnix, March of Dimes Greater Bay Area Executive Director. “José’s passion for innovation and our cause, combined with her business and management acumen, will strengthen March of Dimes’ work to find new solutions to give all babies the best possible start in life.”

March of Dimes gives 4 million babies born each year the best possible start. Nearly half a million of them, like José’s daughter, are born prematurely or with birth defects. Premature birth and its complications are the largest contributors to infant death in the U.S. and pregnancy-related death has more than doubled over the past 25 years. From advocacy to education to research, we’re working to level the playing field so that all moms and babies are healthy.
