EVENT DETAILS

Join us for the 4th Annual Racial Disparities in Maternal Morbidity and Mortality conference, being held October 6th and 7th 2022. The conference is a joint effort by the UCONN HEALTH Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the March of Dimes, the Connecticut Perinatal Quality Collaborative, Connecticut Hospital Association and the Connecticut Department of Public Health.

There is a lot of work to be done to eliminate gaps in maternal health equity. Over 700 women die each year in the U.S. from pregnancy-related causes (1 woman every 12 hours) and more than 50,000 others suffer life threatening health challenges. The U.S. is among the most dangerous developed nations in the world for childbirth with maternal mortality rates more than double that of most other high-income countries. We know very well that there is a long road ahead to solve the issues of birth equity in our country, as evidenced by black women dying at a rate 3 times higher than that of white women.

Last year’s virtual conference saw over 110 participants. Based on their feedback, this year’s virtual conference will focus on Data to Action and feature a combination of plenary speakers and panel presentations with data experts and community-based interventions aimed at reducing disparities and improving maternal health outcomes.

Topics include:

Severe Maternal Morbidity and the Experience of Black Women
Birth Trauma
Perinatal Mental Health
Hypertensive Disorder in Pregnancy
Doula Care
Maternal Substance Use and Access to Treatment
Pregnancy & IPV: Screening & Interventions for Health & Community Providers
Statewide Initiatives Advancing Equitable Health Outcomes

Cost to attend is $40 with Continuing Education Credits or $30 for no Continuing Education Credits
