EVENT DETAILS

March of Dimes, Hawaii Market will host its newly-conceived March of Hope: A Brunch to Honor Moms event on Sunday, March 27, 2022, in celebration of its 83rd Anniversary supporting moms and babies.

To highlight this momentous event, we are pleased to honor and celebrate Dr. Angela Pratt, Chief of OB-GYN at Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women and Children, and the late Martha Smith, former chief executive officer of Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children.

Framed within the backdrop of a parent-and-child fashion show--directed with imagination and flair by Amanda Stevens, University of Hawaii Professor, Fashion Show Production Class, and fashion featured by Saks 5th Avenue, we will gather to honor March of Dimes’ mission and our mothers for their strength, bravery and inspiration.

Guests will be entertained with live music and feted with mouthwatering dishes, desserts and drinks from Alohilani Resort’s award-winning chef de cuisine.

MEET THE EDIE 'OHANA

In 2018 the Edie ‘Ohana almost lost their twins Dylan & Savannah, but thanks to their medical team including our March of Hope honoree, Dr. Angela Pratt, the twins were saved. They spent 6 weeks in the NICU at Kapi`olani Medical Center and the family shared, one of the things that made a difference during this difficult time was the March of Dimes welcome kit & programs offered to the families. Since this was before COVID hit, they enjoyed the opportunities they got to meet other families in the waiting room. Their goal is to bring awareness to these issues & share their story.

Meet the Honorees

Dr. Angela Pratt

As the Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children, she is the first Native Hawaiian and female to hold this esteemed position. Dr. Pratt is also the first female robotic surgeon trained in the State of Hawaii and has a well-established private practice where she performs gynecological surgery, delivers babies, and manages the health of women.  A proud mother and daughter, Dr. Pratt is the co-founder of Hawaii Beauty and Wellness Center and President elect for Hawaii Medical Association where she is a strong advocate for women’s health.

Consistently listed as one of Top Doctors in Hawaii by Honolulu Magazine, she has received numerous leadership and community service accolades she is most especially proud of those from Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce, YWCA Oahu and Susan G. Komen. In 2017, Dr. Pratt created an endowment through the University of Hawaii Foundation to support access to women’s care on the neighbor islands, research in Native Hawaiian women’s health and professional development of faculty, residents and fellows.

Dr. Angela Pratt is a graduate of the Kamehameha Schools, University of Puget Sound and the John A. Burns School of Medicine where she is also a clinical professor.

Martha B. Smith

Marth B. Smith set a standard of excellence through her more than 30 years in health care at Hawaii Pacific Health (HPH). But it was her leadership approach, equally focused on efficiency and compassion - that drew people to follow her. Martha was best known for her decades of service as the top executive at Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children. Most recently she led HPH as Executive Vice President of Oahu Operations. In this position, she served as the Chief Executive Officer of Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children, Straub Medical Center, and Pali Momi Medical Center, a role she held with immense pride and dedication.

Perhaps one of her most significant accomplisments at HPH was her leadership role in developing the Diamond Head Tower at Kapi'olani. It was her vision to create the preeminent health care center for women and children in Hawaii and the Pacific, and to build a space that supported family-centered care for patients, families and staff. It will be part of Martha's considerable legacy.

Most importantly, Martha worked hard and tirelessly, and expected the same from those around her. At the same time, she was extremely thoughtful and caring, always wanting the best for our patients. She is missed dearly.
