EVENT DETAILS

Please join us for the 3rd Annual Racial Disparities in Maternal Morbidity and Mortality conference being held May 11th, 2021. This event is a joint effort by the UCONN HEALTH Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the March of Dimes, the Connecticut Hospitals Association, the Connecticut Perinatal Quality Collaborative, and the Connecticut Department of Public Health.

There is a lot of work to be done to eliminate gaps in maternal health equity. Over 700 women die each year in the U.S. from pregnancy-related causes (1 woman every 12 hours) and more than 50,000 others suffer life threatening health challenges. The U.S. is among the most dangerous developed nations in the world for childbirth with maternal mortality rates more than double that of most other high-income countries. We know very well that there is a long road ahead to solve the issues of birth equity in our country, as evidenced by black women dying at a rate 3 times higher than that of white women.

This year’s virtual conference will focus on taking ACTION! Participants will leave this event engaged and empowered to make change in their communities and systems of care.

This event has now passed. If you would like to view the conference recording please register here.
