EVENT LEADERSHIP

Marlon James 

Marlon T. James is a native of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and attended Northwest Classen High School. Upon graduating from Northwest Classen, Marlon was able to attend Langston University on an academic scholarship. While enrolled at Langston, Marlon simultaneously served in the Oklahoma National Guard and was a cadet in the ROTC program at the University of Central Oklahoma. He successfully graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Business Management from Langston and days later, received an active duty commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army from the University Central Oklahoma.

Marlon has been stationed all around the world and throughout his 23-years in the Armed Forces, he has held positions of increased responsibility in leadership, management, human resources, and operations. Marlon was fortunate to command two companies, including one in combat, where he was awarded the Bronze Star with “Valor” due to his actions.

Now, retired from the Army, he is currently employed as a Program Manager with the Department of Defense (DoD) as a K-12 STEM Outreach Coordinator, located at Tinker Air Force Base and is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Oklahoma. He is a proud and active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the March of Dimes, the Dale K. Graham Veterans Foundation, Skyline Urban Ministries, as well as, the Chairman for both the Brenton Hills Home Owners Association and the Scholarship Committee at the Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church.

Marlon has been married to Karrie L. James for six years and they have five awesome children, Marlon James II, who is currently stationed at Ft. Hood, TX, Victoria, who is a senior at the University of Central Oklahoma and will pursue her Master of Social Work at OU, next fall. Kasey, is a freshman at Langston, studying Agriculture Business. Michael just completed his senior year at Tulsa Union and will be attending Oklahoma Baptist University in the fall, and Nicholas, an 8th grader, has ambitions of being an Industrial Engineer.

Marlon also holds a Master of Arts in Management and Leadership degree from Webster University. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with family, friends, mentoring, tutoring, public speaking, teaching Sunday school and philanthropy work.
