San Antonio received an "F" in the March of Dimes 2015 Prematurity Report Card among the top 100 cities in the country with the greatest number of births. San Antonio’s prematurity rate of 11.5% means that 1 in every 9 babies are born too early and too small. San Antonio is the only major city in Texas to earn an F. And some areas of San Antonio have prematurity rates up to 19.3%. We know San Antonio can do better. In 2003, the March of Dimes launched its national prematurity campaign to address the crisis and help families have full-term, healthy babies. The March of Dimes in San Antonio and many partners decided to hold this multi-disciplinary summit to impact change in the preterm birth rate in our community. Our vision for this summit is to unite the community to positively impact the health of women, infants and families through the reduction in preterm births within San Antonio and surrounding communities.
