Statement on Congressional Resolution Omitting Critical Health Policy

December 22, 2024

“We commend Congress for taking necessary action to avert a government shutdown by passing a continuing resolution (CR) that provides stop-gap funding through March 14, 2025. However, March of Dimes is deeply disappointed that many bipartisan health provisions were removed from the package, including top priorities for maternal and infant health advocates. These include the PREEMIE Act, Preventing Maternal Deaths Act, and NIH IMPROVE Act, policies that would have advanced research into preterm birth, maternal death and severe morbidity, and strengthened Maternal Mortality Review Committees (MMRCs) to drive solutions to the maternal health crisis through impactful policy change.”

“March of Dimes is unwavering in its commitment to advancing these legislative policies with the incoming 119th Congress. Our top priority is to work with champions for maternal and infant health to secure funding for critical investments to improve the health and well-being of moms and babies so that every family can get the best possible start. Only through bipartisan policies focusing on increasing access to quality healthcare, supporting healthy women and babies, and improving research and surveillance can we achieve this goal together.”
