Search Underway For Local March Of Dimes Ambassadors
Seeking Aiken County Families touched by work of March of DimesAiken, South Carolina, June 18, 2013
The search is on! March of Dimes is seeking families interested in serving as Ambassadors for Aiken County March for Babies in 2013. We are looking for at least one family to represent the March of Dimes from Aiken County.
Since 1946, the March of Dimes has identified a child to represent the organization to the American public, developing what became known as its “poster child.” During the Foundation’s polio campaign, the poster child was stricken with polio. Today, the March of Dimes Ambassador brings a face to the mission of the March of Dimes for your co-workers, friends and sponsors. An Ambassador family can tell the story of how their lives have been touched by March of Dimes-funded research, programs, advocacy or educational campaigns. They are a living symbol of the March of Dimes mission and share their story to raise awareness and funds to help all babies get a healthy start by fighting serious threats to infant health, including premature birth.
Premature birth touches half a million babies and their families every year including nearly 9,000 babies in South Carolina each year. Babies born too soon are struggle to survive and may have lifelong health consequences. The March of Dimes is committed to funding research to find the answers to premature birth and funding local programs to educate healthcare providers and moms-to-be.
March for Babies is the March of Dimes premier fundraising event that benefits all babies. Aiken county residents can sign up today to help fund lifesaving research and educational programs aimed at reaching the goal of giving every baby a healthy start in life. Funds raised by this March for Babies event support research and grants awarded to programs that improve infant and maternal health in South Carolina.
