Uninsured Women and Children

The percent of uninsured women (15-44 years of age) and children (<19 years) is obtained from IPUMS-USA, University of Minnesota, using data from the American Community Survey (ACS) from the U.S. Census Bureau. The ACS is a nationwide survey that collects information on demographic, social, economic, and housing characteristics about the U.S. population every year. The ACS is an ongoing survey of about 295,000 households each month, or 3.5 million households annually. PeriStats presents the percent of women and children who do not have any health insurance coverage. A respondent was considered uninsured if they were not covered by any type of health insurance at the time of the survey. Additionally, they were considered uninsured if they only had coverage through the Indian Health Service (IHS). More background can be found at IPUMS-USA or the U.S. Census Bureau websites.
