Safe Sleep (PRAMS)

Length of time between birth and discharge of the infant from the hospital following delivery can vary depending on many factors. For infants discharged within 48 hours of delivery, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that an appointment be made for follow-up examination with a licensed healthcare professional preferably within 48 hours of discharge in order to assess the newborn for complications, such as jaundice, gastrointestinal issue or other problems that may take longer than 48 hours to become apparent.
