Greater Piedmont Division Announces 2013 Signature Chefs Auction Ambassador Family

    Charlotte , North Carolina , July 18, 2013 —

The Greater Piedmont Division of March of Dimes is proud to announce triplets Zachary, Charlie, Cooper, age 6 and their parents, Brian and Raizel Kahn, as the Foundation’s 2013 Signature Chefs Auction Ambassadors.

Zachary, Charlie and Cooper were born at 24 weeks gestation, each weighing a shocking 1 pound, 6 ounces.  “I did everything I was told to do while pregnant with the boys,” stated Raizel. “At week 20, I went in for my routine check up and found out I was in labor.  It was terrifying.”  At the time, Raizel and her husband were told they would more than likely lose the triplets within 72 hours, however with medical treatments and strict hospital bed rest, the pregnancy was prolonged as long as possible.

The Kahns say they are eternally grateful for those few extra weeks of the pregnancy, but still, it “was devastating to see babies so tiny and underdeveloped.” “Their skin was translucent, their eyes fused shut.  They looked like tiny birds,” stated Raizel reflecting on the first time she saw her triplets. “It was beyond surreal that those little babies just safely inside of me were now in incubators, fighting for their lives.” Zach and Charlie spent 100 days in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and their brother Cooper, an astounding six months.

“As direct beneficiaries of March of Dimes’ research and innovation, I credit the March of Dimes with saving the boys’ lives,”  Raizel said.  Today the boys are thriving and are remarkably healthy, happy and normal little boys about to start kindergarten. “Cooper is still small but he’s a basketball star; we just signed him up for basketball camp.  Charlie’s a firecracker. He loves Legos and drawing.  Zach’s my show-kid; he loves magic and will read about anything you give him,” stated Raizel.

As Ambassadors, the Kahn family will speak on how the March of Dimes has benefited them and encourage others to join and support the cause. The 2013 Signature Chefs Auction, which is celebrating the March of Dimes’ 75th Anniversary, will take place November 7 at the Carmel Country Club located in Charlotte, NC. More information is available at (980) 939-6021.

The Kahns are thrilled be the face of the Greater Piedmont’s Signature Chefs Auction this year. Raizel stated, “Seeing children, mine and others, who are now healthy because of what the March of Dimes has done is remarkable,” stated Raizel. “I look forward to spreading the March of Dimes mission and how it touches not just preemies but all babies.”

Presently, the Kahn Boys are thriving, pictured above.
