75th Anniversary Historical Photo: Charles H. Bynum
Kinston, North Carolina, July 03, 2013
One of the ways we are celebrating our 75th anniversary is by reflecting on our local and national accomplishments for stronger, healthier babies. Each month we have added a historical picture with relevance to the March of Dimes. It's now time for another photo. Pictured: Charles H. Bynum (1905-1996), an African-American educator and civil rights campaigner, was the Director of Interracial Activities for the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis (March of Dimes) for nearly three decades. His path-breaking work of outreach to African-Americans throughout the United States helped to ensure that black children and adults received the proper medical care in polio epidemics. Bynum was born in Kinston, North Carolina!
