Who are YOU Walking For: Team Azariah- J'Hanna Harrington's Commitment
Raleigh, North Carolina, April 22, 2013
At age 8, J’Hanna Harrington looked forward to the birth of her little cousin. She planned to have fun, play often and assist in babysitting. J’Hanna was not expecting her cousin to arrive more than three months early. Azariah Best was born April 27, 2004, weighing 1 pound, 6 ounces. Azariah’s parents, both self-employed, spent countless hours at the hospital, while family cared for J’Hanna. During Azariah’s hospital stay, many days were filled with gloom and hopelessness.
After that experience, J’Hanna, as young as she was, resorted to researching how and why such things could happen to a baby. J’Hanna, now a high school senior at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School, is committed to continuing her research. Her graduate project is on prematurity. She is raising funds for research with the March of Dimes, participating with March for Babies and engaging her family and classmates. On the day of the Triangle March for Babies, Azariah will also celebrate her 9th birthday! J’Hanna sponsored a fish fry and barbecue Friday, April 5th at Style Master’s Barber Shop, in Raleigh, NC, owned by her uncle and Azariah’s father. She hopes to raise at least $1,000.
Thanks to research, March of Dimes intervention and the support of her family, Azariah has minor health issues with cognition and vision. Otherwise, Azariah is thriving. She plans to fulfill her commitment to helping babies, and enroll in nursing school in August 2013.
