PSEG Long Island Tops the Corporate Fundraising Teams for the March of Dimes
East Meadow, NY, July 03, 2014
On Sunday, April 27, over 4,000 volunteers joined the March for Babies event in Eisenhower Park, East Meadow in support of the March of Dimes. Among attendees were over 500 employees from PSEG Long Island, with their t-shirts creating a sea of orange. These walkers, led by 40+ team captains, raised more than $43,000 to become the Top Corporate Fundraising Team for the March of Dimes on Long Island. The efforts were led by PSEG Long Island’s Team that worked diligently in rallying the troops in just five short weeks to help make this a tremendously successful event. Their support and dedication will help to ensure that more babies in our community will get the healthiest start in life.
Premature birth affects one out of every nine babies and the need for research continues, as premature birth is still a silent crisis in America. March for Babies is the largest fundraising initiative for the March of Dimes both nationally, as well as on Long Island. In 2014, through the support of over 6,000 walkers and volunteers, $855,000 was raised to help Long Island families.
On July 2, in recognition of this tremendous effort, Dave Daly, president & chief operating officer at PSEG Long Island was presented with the Top Corporate Fundraising Award by the March of Dimes. He was joined by George Coburn, manager-customer experience; and Patricia Petry, supervisor-meter reading Q&A. Representing the March of Dimes were Joanne Jones, executive director; and Laura Siddons, community director from the March of Dimes Long Island Division.
In addition to presenting Daly with a gift, Jones invited PSEG Long Island’s leader to be the corporate chair for the 2015 March for Babies event. Mr. Daly graciously accepted this role stating, “PSEG Long Island is committed to making a positive contribution to the communities in which we serve, and I am excited to support March of Dimes in its mission to help our babies have a healthier start. Our entire PSEG Long Island team looks forward to building the Long Island Division and bringing in new companies and volunteers to partner with us in supporting this important cause.”
