Statement From The March of Dimes on Zika Virus

November 22, 2016
The Zika crisis is not over until a safe and effective vaccine is available. While March of Dimes welcomes the World Health Organization’s recommendation to develop a longer-term Zika response mechanism, the impact of this disease on babies must be recognized as distinct among other infectious threats, meriting an escalated response. March of Dimes remains deeply concerned about the disproportionate impact that Zika infection can have on pregnant women and their babies. Regardless of how Zika virus is classified in the future, it must continue to be recognized and resourced as an urgent public health issue.
