Kmart® In New Jersey Celebrates Healthy Babies
Teams up with March of Dimes as Official Partner of Mothers Day and Fathers DaySayreville, New Jersey, May 20, 2013
Every baby is born to do something great! That’s the inspiring message of the March of Dimes “imbornto” campaign now in your nearby Kmart store. Shoppers can donate at the cash register to support the March of Dimes work to help more babies be born healthy. More information can be found at imbornto.com.
imbornto also provides consumers nationwide the opportunity to shop at Kmart stores around the U.S. for gift ideas for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, while supporting the March of Dimes. The imbornto campaign builds on Kmart’s three-decade commitment to improving children’s health. Kmart’s associates and customers have raised more than $106 million for the March of Dimes over the past 30 years.
Kmart is also the top fund raiser and corporate sponsor of March for Babies which is held in more than 750 communities on the last weekend in April. Support for March for Babies is part of Kmart for Kidssm, the umbrella program for Kmart’s philanthropic initiatives, which focuses on improving children’s health and wellness. In New Jersey, Kmart employees are forming teams to walk in March for Babies. They are raising funds and awareness through events such as bake sales and car shows. Local store are decorated with balloons and banners, and March for Babies Family Teams are often in the stores to share their personal stories.
"The exciting thing about Kmart is the platform it provides for the public to give, on a grass roots level a dollar at a time. In New Jersey people know that every spring you can pop into a Kmart store and you will see the signs, the balloons and the people - it's that time again, time to save babies. The store teams do a tremendous job creating awareness about the March of Dimes. The March of Dimes is a part of our corporate culture that we are proud of. Our store teams are excited about 2013 and what we bring to the table for the organization," said David Wagman, Kmart Store Manager in Gloucester and Camden counties, New Jersey.
Wagman, a Williamstown resident, also has a personal connection to the March of Dimes. Six years ago David and his wife Stephanie had a normal pregnancy when suddenly during delivery they lost their daughter Isabella. A nurse in the hospital connected him and his family with the March of Dimes, who was able to provide them with the support they needed at such a difficult time. Since then, Wagman has formed a team each year and walks in March for Babies to honor the memory of his daughter.
“Kmart is giving back to our community,” said Addy Bonet, State Director for the New Jersey March of Dimes Chapter. “With the New Jersey support of Kmart’s customers and associates, we can fund cutting-edge research and community programs, like Healthy Babies are Worth the Wait and NICU Family Support, that help improve the health of babies.”
The March of Dimes was established in 1938 by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and went on to fund the development of the first safe and effective polio vaccines before turning to its mission to improve the health of babies. Today, the March of Dimes, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, is hard at work to prevent the epidemic of premature birth which affects nearly a half million babies every year.
Kmart encourages people to participate in March for Babies or the new imbornto campaign at any Kmart store nationwide through June 22, 2013.
