2013 March for Babies: State & National Companies Support Stronger, Healthier Babies

Wendy Keyes, March of Dimes, (973) 296-8811, wkeyes@marchofdimes.com

    Sayreville, New Jersey, March 28, 2013 —

Local and national companies as diverse as airlines, insurance companies and retailers have one thing in common: They’re aligning their brands with a cause that’s important to their employees’ and community’s hearts – the health of babies.

The March of Dimes announced that six New Jersey and nine national corporations will support its 2013 March for Babies® fundraiser, the nation’s first and most beloved charitable walking event. March for Babies is supported by state sponsors PSEG, Actavis, UnitedHealthcare, Virtua, Investors Bank and Hackensack University Medical Center. Nationally, it’s supported by the organization’s number one corporate supporter, Kmart, and top sponsors Farmers Insurance Group, Macy’s, Cigna, Sanofi Pasteur, Famous Footwear, Actavis, Mission Pharmacal, and United Airlines.

“March for Babies continues the March of Dimes vision of gathering volunteers nationwide to raise funds that put science into service for the people,” says Michael McGuire, CEO, UnitedHealthcare. “It’s the very principle on which the March of Dimes was founded. We are honored to help support their mission for healthy babies.”

In 2013, the March of Dimes celebrates its 75th anniversary and its ongoing work to help babies get a healthy start in life.  Early research led to the Salk and Sabin polio vaccines that all babies still receive.  Other breakthroughs include new treatments for premature infants and children with birth defects. About 4 million babies are born each year in the United States, and the March of Dimes helps each and every one.

This year’s March for Babies will take place in New Jersey from April 21 to June 1. To join a March for Babies event near you, visit marchforbabies.org.

“By supporting March for Babies, these companies show their employees and customers that they care about the community we live in and helping more moms have healthy babies,” says Matthew Siegel, Monmouth County March for Babies Chair.  “This is a fun, family friendly event that builds company morale and raises funds for a wonderful cause.”

The money raised by March for Babies events supports research, education, and community-based programs that help moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies, such as Healthy Babies are Worth the Wait®, a preterm birth prevention initiative with a focus on “preventable” late preterm birth. March of Dimes grantees conduct research to find answers to the problems that threaten the health of babies.

The March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health. With chapters nationwide and its premier event, March for Babies, the March of Dimes works to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
