Local Executive to Lead St. Louis March for Babies

    St. Louis, Missouri, January 21, 2014 —

The March of Dimes Missouri Chapter is pleased to announce that Rick Ausick, Brown Shoe Company division president of Famous Footwear, will chair its 2014 March for Babies campaign.  Ausick is also a father, which makes his commitment to the good health of moms and babies personal and meaningful.

The 2014 St. Louis March for Babies is Saturday, April 26 in the Upper Muny Lot at Forest Park. Additionally, there is a Washington, MO walk scheduled for April 12 and a Metro East event set for May 10 at GCS Ballpark.  March for Babies information is available here.

March for Babies is the largest annual fundraising event for the March of Dimes.  Nearly 4 million babies are born in the United States each year, and the March of Dimes has helped each and every one through 75 years of research, education, vaccines and breakthroughs.

As March for Babies chair, Ausick will play an integral role in raising awareness and funds to advance the scientific research and educational programs at the core of the March of Dimes mission.  According to Ausick, “I’m so pleased to be chairing the 2014 March for Babies campaign in St. Louis in support of March of Dimes and its mission to eradicate premature birth and ensure every baby has a healthy start.  March for Babies is at the heart of bringing us closer to our mission. Famous Footwear and our parent company, Brown Shoe Company, will be out in force at the event walking in support of moms and babies around the world.  We are committed to raising more than $1.3 million this year through our national and local St. Louis campaign efforts.”

Last year, thousands of people attended the St. Louis walk and raised approximately $700,000.  The St. Louis event is one of the ten largest in the country.  According to Missy Tillman, St. Louis Division Director for the March of Dimes Missouri Chapter, “I’m thrilled to have Rick Ausick on board for 2014. It takes strong community leaders, like Rick, to make this event a success. Famous Footwear has been a wonderful corporate partner for many years and we look forward to taking this relationship to the next level.” Funds raised in St. Louis support community education, research and advocacy to help all moms have full term babies and healthy pregnancies. March of Dimes is investing almost $3 million in prematurity research at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and funding a “centering pregnancy” program of group prenatal care offered through Saint Louis University and Grace Hill Neighborhood Health Center. Additionally, the Missouri Chapter is helping the Midwest Health Initiative bring together physicians, hospitals, the business community, community organizations, health plans, and others to reduce the number of early elective deliveries before 39 weeks of pregnancy.

March for Babies is sponsored nationally by Kmart, Famous Footwear, Macy’s, Cigna, Sanofi Pasteur, United, Mission Pharmacal and Actavis.  Famous Footwear and Brown Shoe are supporting the St. Louis event.
