March of Dimes Hosts 2013 Signature Chefs Auction, Introducing the Meijer Chef Competition

For the first time ever, participating chefs will compete to win bragging rights, as well as take home the 2013 Top Signature Chef Award. Restaurants will also be competing for best display, plate presentation, and best taste. The Meijer Chef’s Competition will be judged by: Doug Small, John “Gonzo” Gonzales, Chef Ray Sierengowski, and Mayor George Heartwell. Awards will be presented on Monday, November 11, at the March of Dimes annual Signature Chefs Auction at DeVos Place. The gala, emceed by Christian Frank and Michele DeSelms of Fox 17, will feature exquisite eats from West Michigan’s top chefs, as well as exciting live and silent auction, and raffle items.
“Grand Rapids top chefs with compete and all the guests will get an opportunity to taste their dishes at the event.” said Doug Small, Signature Chefs Auction Judge and president of Experience Grand Rapids.
Participating chefs include Reserve Wine and Food, The Catering Company, One Trick Pony, YoChef's Catering Company, Olive's Restaurant, Amore Trattoria Italiana, CitySen Lounge, Mia & Grace, Cygnus 27, Applause Catering + Events, Charley’s Crab, FOODesign by Chef Brech, Spinnaker, Sundance Saloon & Steakhouse, and The Chop House.
Guests will be invited to bid on hundreds of amazing auction and raffle items, ranging from wine tastings, family excursions and spa/salon packages to weekend getaways, golf outings and even jewelry. Big-ticket items include a pub crawl, New Holland Brewery, Vasaio and Ladies night out package.
Funds raised by the Signature Chefs Auction support the March of Dimes mission to improve the health of babies through lifesaving research and programs, such as prenatal education for doctors and nurses at community hospitals; the March of Dimes NICU Family Support Program at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital. This year’s auction is expected to raise $250,000.
