Seventeen honored with March of Dimes Nurse of the Year Awards

The March of Dimes Massachusetts Chapter honored 17 nurses from a group of 75 statewide finalists at its third annual Nurse of the Year Awards on October 7 at the VERVE - Crowne Plaza Hotel.
Nurses are an integral part of the March of Dimes mission for stronger, healthier babies. Nurse of the Year is a statewide event that recognizes exceptional nurses, creates awareness of professional excellence and promotes the future of the nursing profession, while helping to advance the mission of the March of Dimes.
The Nurse of the Year selection committee reviewed applications and chose winners in 12 categories: Administration, Advanced Practice, Community & Public Health, Education, Labor & Delivery, Maternal/Newborn, Neonatal, Nurse Researcher, Pediatric Family Medicine, Student Nurse, Women’s Health and Antepartum. The Heart Award, Nurse Leader Award, Quality Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award were also presented.
The Heart Award is presented to a nurse who demonstrates a high-level of compassion and dedication in supporting patients and their families. These nurses are sympathetic and act as patient advocates.
Nurse Leader Award
The Nurse Leader Award is given to a nurse that demonstrates leadership in their nursing and mentorship achievements.
The Quality Award is presented to a nurse who has successfully initiated projects, or implemented programs and initiatives for the purpose of improving the quality of health services.
Lifetime Achievement Award
The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an individual who has dedicated their career to achieving a record of excellence in nursing practice, including contributions that improve the standard of practice in their institution. This award is given to a nurse who has served as a role model to peers and lead by example.
