Our Story: The LaCamera Family – The Boston Ambassador Family
Bedford, MA, April 18, 2013
If you met Aiden for the first time, you’d never know this curious six-year-old went through a lifetime of medical issues in his first few months—respiratory distress syndrome, PDA ligation surgery on his heart, multiple infections, apnea of prematurity, multiple blood transfusions, hyperglycemia, retinopathy of prematurity and anemia.
MaryEllen and Chris LaCamera were thrilled to find out that they were expecting twins in early 2006. Euphoria set in when they found out they were expecting a boy and a girl. The pregnancy was not without bumps in the road such as bed rest and hospitalizations. During one such hospitalization they were dealt with the brutal misfortune that at just 23 weeks, their baby girl Sophia Elizabeth had passed away. Aiden was strong but faced an extraordinary uphill battle.
MaryEllen was able to hold on for four more weeks but at 27 weeks one day, Aiden was delivered via emergency C-section.
What took place over the next 75 days was miraculous. With the assistance of extraordinarily talented medical professionals, Aiden’s daily battle to stay alive was nothing short of heroic.
Fast forward six years. The LaCameras are blessed to have the most joyous, energetic, and cheerful six-year-old you’ll ever meet. They feel forever indebted to all the people and organizations that directly or indirectly assisted in his development.
