Karen Friedman wins Nurse of The Year Award

Karen has been in nursing for 27 years and currently works at the Boston Healthcare for the Homeless Program. She provides outreach services to homeless families in Boston area family shelters, motels, and domestic violence shelters. Karen's work includes urgent and non-urgent clinical care, family planning, health teaching, connecting to and collaborating with primary care specialists. One of her outstanding accomplishments was finding respite foster care for a 10-year-old girl whose mom needed surgery, but had no one to care for her. She visited and treated this mom and her young daughter throughout their 18 months in a motel. Karen is also dedicated to helping support new moms successfully breastfeed including anticipatory guidance and promoting parents' strong early bonds with their infants.
