Congressman Hinojosa wins “Best in Show” and five other winners announced at March of Dimes 31st Annual Gourmet Gala

Things heated up last night as 44 Members of Congress traded their suits for aprons at the March of Dimes 31st Annual Gourmet Gala, a unique cooking competition with a Capitol Hill flair. The fundraising dinner was held Wednesday, April 17, at the National Building Museum and benefitted the March of Dimes. This year, a record number of Congressional Members participated as celebrity chefs to support the March of Dimes, and they did not disappoint. Mouth-watering recipes featuring local flavors from Members’ home states were presented for tasting and six prestigious awards were presented to winning chefs.

More than 600 attended the event, which raised more than $ 925,000 to support March of Dimes programs and research. Other highlights of the evening included the celebration of the March of Dimes 75th Anniversary, which was the theme of the event. The evening also featured distinguished guests: House Speaker John Boehner, Bret Baier, FOX News Channel anchor and Gourmet Gala master of ceremonies, Dr. Jennifer Howse, March of Dimes president, and Elizabeth Roosevelt Johnston, great-granddaughter of March of Dimes founder, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, as well as event co-chairs, Julianne Chambliss and Helen Green, wives of Senator Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) and Representative Gene Green, (D-TX), (respectively). These distinguished speakers highlighted the numerous achievements of the March of Dimes over the past 75 years, from polio to prematurity, and spoke to the importance of the organization’s ongoing role and mission of improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
