Donna Riordan is September’s Volunteer of the Month
Vero Beach, Florida, September 01, 2012
Donna Riordan is the Director of Women’s Health at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach. She has proven to be a dedicated volunteer and invaluable asset to the Treasure Coast Division.
Donna has served on the Treasure Coast Division Board for the past five years. She was the board chair in 2010 and 2011, leading the division to financial success and spearheading numerous March of Dimes awareness campaigns throughout the division. “Leading with mission is the best way to bring on a new sponsor,” Donna explains. “The more people know about the work of the March of Dimes, the more likely they are to commit to the cause.”
As the executive champion for Indian River Medical Center March for Babies team, Donna has rallied the hospital physicians, administrators and staff to increase their fundraising efforts year after year. From delivering singing Valentine’s Day telegrams to her co-workers to flipping burgers with the physicians to kick off the March for Babies campaign.
In addition to her own March for Babies team’s fundraising efforts, Donna is an exemplary mission ambassador for the March of Dimes. She helps educate March for Babies team captains by hosting mission and program trainings at Indian River Medical Center. Donna partners with the hospital’s physicians to demonstrate the impact of the organization’s efforts in the Labor and Delivery Unit and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU.) She has also helped educate local community organizations by establishing a group of physicians to serve as a speaker’s bureau on behalf of the March of Dimes.
Indian River Medical Center was recently recognized by the March of Dimes for implementing the Healthy Babies are Worth the Wait initiative. The hospital has reduced the rate of elective deliveries prior to 39 weeks. “We are so proud of making an impact in our community by implementing this initiative,” Donna said. Healthy Babies are definitely Worth the Wait.”
