March of Dimes Florida Chapter distributes 19 Community Awards - Awards help Florida’s moms and babies

    Maitland, Florida, March 27, 2014 —

March of Dimes Florida Chapter has presented community awards to organizations across the state to address unmet maternal and child health needs. These grants will give attention to significant maternal and child health issues, such as access to prenatal care, family planning and preconception health, and will contribute to healthy maternal-infant outcomes in our community.

”By supporting the efforts of Florida community organizations, the March of Dimes is able to reach out to high-risk moms and increase their chances of having a healthy baby,” said Dr. Karen Harris, March of Dimes Florida Chapter Program Services Chair. “We are grateful that our successful fundraising efforts, such as the March for Babies, make it possible to fund these community awards.”

Community awards are small grants of up to $3,000. Every project funded usually lasts a period of one year. The distribution of this year’s community awards contributes locally to the mission of the March of Dimes of preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. The 19 awards total $46,650.
