Award of Merit for Barrier-Free Design
This award was established in 1993 to promote public awareness of the importance of barrier-free design, and to recognize excellence in accessibility design.
It is presented annually to the owner(s) of a building or facility that has been designed or renovated with special regard to accessibility for persons with a disability.

Eligibility Criteria
Structures that qualify for this award include:
- new public or private buildings or facilities, the design of which incorporate barrier-free accessibility;
- existing buildings or facilities that have been re-designed or renovated to incorporate barrier-free accessibility.
