We are searching for Canadian Researchers/Scientists/Doctors who've made an outstanding contribution to the alleviation, cure, or prevention of a physically disabling condition. The Jonas Salk Award includes a personal financial tribute of $10,000 in recognition of the recipient's achievement. The Award will be presented at the annual Ability and Beyond dinner on June 4, 2007 in Toronto. Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal will be the special guest speaker.
Deadline for submissions is open but nominations must be received at least one month in advance of the dinner.
Eligibility: Nominee must meet the following criteria:
1. Must be a Canadian scientist, researcher or physician residing in Canada.
2. Must have made a significant contribution to science and/or medicine.
3. Research conducted has resulted in a significant advancement in scientific knowledge in the prevention, treatment or cure of a physically disabling condition.
4. Research findings must have been published in refereed journals.
Areas of acceptable research include, but are not limited to:
- Adaptive technologies-engineering
- Brain and spinal cord injuries
- Medicine
- Neuroscience
- Post-polio syndrome
- Stroke
- ALS
- Cerebral palsy
- MS
- Parkinson's
- Rehabilitation medicine
- Studies in aging
