Endowment Funds

Contribute to a large fund that impacts Canadians with disabilities

Endowment funds ensure that important programs have a continuous and secure source of funding because only the interest earned on the capital is spent, while the base amount remains intact.

If you're interested in donating to an endowment fund, you can choose from one of our current funds, or speak to us about creating a new one.

Our endowment funds include:

  • The Rt. Hon. Paul Martin Sr. Biomedical & Rehabilitation Research Endowment Fund
This fund was established in 1994 to support a new or significant contribution to science or medicine in the alleviation or prevention of a disabling condition.

What makes the fund unique is that it is not exclusively devoted to biomedical research. It also allows for the development and piloting of services to assist with the independence of persons with disabilities.

Thus, the fund may one day be instrumental in the creation of a better crutch or in spinal cord regeneration.

Since its formation, the fund has appreciated through bequests and in 1998 reached its first million-dollar milestone. In 1999, the first grant of $30,000 was given by the fund and the goal of $5,000,000 announced.

Then, in 2002, an agreement with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) saw the earnings from the fund dedicated to the OMOD/CIHR Biomedical and Rehabilitation Research Award, which provides support for recipients for up to three years.

  • Wade Hampton Memorial Fund
Wade Hampton believed that getting a person out of bed after an injury and putting them through sometimes extensive and painful surgery, physiotherapy and retraining, was a job only half completed. If that person could not find gainful employment, we ultimately had failed.

Wade was passionate about this and spent over 40 years ensuring that people found employment after their recoveries. That is why, in cooperation with the Hampton family, we established the Wade Hampton Memorial Fund.

The Wade Hampton Memorial Fund's goal is to create a base of $200,000, with annual earned income funding the Wade Hampton Employment Training Bursary. The bursary helps men and women with disabilities in Ontario get the additional educational and job training they need to be successful in their working lives.

We can think of no more fitting tribute to one of Ontario's most dedicated citizens and volunteers than this. We invite you to make a donation to the fund, and by doing so, help us ensure Wade's vision lives well beyond his lifetime.

  • Richard Kall Memorial Fund
In the year 2000, we lost an inspirational leader and a dear friend to many throughout the organization. The tragic death of Richard Kall, our Chief Operating Officer, left staff, volunteers and consumers feeling a huge sense of loss.

Richard's selfless caring and compassion for others directly impacted the lives of many. Richard set high standards for himself and others, always striving for excellence.

It is in this spirit that we established the Richard Kall Memorial Fund to finance The Richard Kall Employee Award of Excellence, a recognition of the individuals who make a real difference in the lives of the people we serve.
