Acquired Brain Injury Services

The Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Services at Ontario March of Dimes allows people living with the effects of an acquired brain injury to reside in their community and near a natural support network.

The goal of the program is to provide flexible, consumer centred assistance and support that maximizes independence, self-care and the capacity to live-in and be a part of the community.

The approach is to not only involve the consumer, but to also include external support such as family members, friends and other service providers.

Specialized case managers and rehabilitation professionals work with the client, family members, friends and other service providers to help clients move back into the community and back into life.

Areas of assistance include:

  • activities of daily living
  • communication
  • community orientation and integration
  • emotional/ behavioural support
  • life skills training
  • social skills training
  • vocational/ avocational support

Our case managers and rehabilitation workers undergo specialized, intense training to give their clients goal-oriented care in everything from skill development, emotional and behavioural support to exploring and getting involved in the community.
