Aetna Treasurer Named Chair of 2014 Greater Hartford March for Babies

    Leigh-Anne Lefurge, March of Dimes, (860) 815-9353, llefurge@marchofdimes.org

    Hartford, CT, January 29, 2014 —

The March of Dimes Connecticut Chapter is pleased to announce that J. Lankford Wade, Vice President, Corporate Finance & Treasurer of Aetna, has been named Chairperson of the March of Dimes 2014 Greater Hartford March for Babies event.

March for Babies, the organization’s largest annual fundraising event to support its mission to give every baby a healthy start, will be held at Rentschler Field in East Hartford on Sunday, April 27, 2014.

As chair, Wade will play an integral role in raising awareness and funds to advance the scientific research and educational programs at the core of the March of Dimes effort to find causes and preventions for preterm birth and birth defects.

“I am excited to be working with the March of Dimes Connecticut Chapter.  When my wife and I lost a child at 38 weeks of pregnancy, we decided that we would do anything to help prevent future families from going through what we went through, as well as supporting those who have experienced a similar loss.  I believe in the mission of the March of Dimes and look forward to working together for stronger, healthier babies,” said Wade.

A corporate reception and information session will be hosted by Wade on Tuesday, February 11th from 5-7 pm in the Aetna Customer Center.  Business and community leaders are encouraged to attend to learn more about March of Dimes and Aetna partnership initiatives and how they can support Hartford March for Babies.  For more information contact Marc Spencer, March of Dimes Senior Community Director, at 860-815-9354 or mspencer@marchofdimes.org.

“I am heartened by Lankford’s support for stronger healthier babies in Connecticut. His choice to turn such tragedy into a stronger future for others is inspiring, and I hope the community will in turn show their support,” said Spencer.

Registration for March for Babies is now open at marchforbabies.org/event/greaterhartford.  Those who register online and raise $100 before February 28 will receive a March for Babies water bottle.

Greater Hartford March for Babies is sponsored by Clear Channel Radio, Connecticut Parent Magazine, Lamar Outdoor, supported by statewide sponsors, NBC Connecticut and Comcast and sponsored nationally by the March of Dimes number one corporate supporter Kmart, Macy’s, Famous Footwear, Cigna, Sanofi Pasteur, Mission Pharmacal and United Airlines.

For more than 75 years, moms and babies have benefited from March of Dimes research, education, vaccines and breakthrough.  Find out how you can help raise funds to prevent premature birth and birth defects by walking in March for Babies at marchforbabies.org.  Find us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.
