East Granby Mom Named 2013 Family Teams Chair

Family Teams in Connecticut Aiming to Raise Over $550,000 at March for Babies 2013

    Glastonbury, CT, January 10, 2013 —

Beth Reilly of East Granby has been named the 2013 Family Teams Chair by the March of Dimes Connecticut Chapter.  Reilly will support the fundraising efforts of family teams raising money for March for Babies this spring, as well as communicate with families year-round about other mission-related activities, fundraisers and volunteer opportunities.  Connecticut family teams raised over $510,000 in 2012, helping the Chapter raise a record $1.3 million.  During 2013, which marks the March of Dimes 75th anniversary, the Chapter aims to raise $550,000 by family teams.

Made up of friends and family members, family teams walk to celebrate, honor or remember the babies and children who have touched their lives. Reilly will work with other family team volunteers statewide to raise awareness of the March of Dimes mission, share fundraising ideas and support with walkers, and communicate successes throughout the campaign.

Pregnant with daughter, Kate, in December 2010, Beth went into premature labor at just 23 ½ weeks.  Delivered at Saint Francis Hospital, Kate weighed just 1 pound 7 ounces.  Just 2 ½ weeks later, Kate passed away due to complications from her early birth.

“My family has partnered with the March of Dimes as a way to celebrate Kate’s life.  We are so thankful that we had the opportunity to fall in love with our little girl, and we know that wouldn't have been possible without the great progress already achieved in the March of Dimes 75 year history,” said Reilly.  “I am honored to be working with amazing families from all over Connecticut, and we’ll be walking in our hearts with each family to honor, to celebrate, and to give thanks for all of the babies in our lives.”

Participants can now register for March for Babies at marchofdimes.org/ct or marchforbabies.org.  There are nine event sites statewide on April 27 and 28, and May 4 and 5.

March for Babies in Connecticut is proudly sponsored by NBC Connecticut and Comcast, and sponsored nationally by the March of Dimes number one corporate supporter Kmart, Farmers Insurance Group, Macy’s, Cigna, Sanofi Pasteur, Famous Footwear, Watson Pharmaceuticals, Mission Pharmacal, and United Airlines.

In 2013, the March of Dimes celebrates its 75th anniversary and its ongoing work to help babies get a healthy start in life.  Early research led to the Salk and Sabin polio vaccines that all babies still receive.  Other breakthroughs include new treatments for premature infants and children with birth defects.  About 4 million babies are born each year in the United States, and all have benefitted from March of Dimes lifesaving research and education.  For the latest resources and information, visit marchofdimes.org or nacersano.org. You can also find them on Facebook and Twitter.
