Maternity Leave Resource Tool
Research suggests that mothers who take maternity leave both before and after delivery can improve health outcomes for themselves and for their babies. Planning for maternity leave and understanding benefits is not always a simple task. The March of Dimes worked with UC Berkeley School of Public Health to develop and evaluate an easy-to-read maternity leave educational tool for pregnant women in California.
The tool can be used by expectant moms to help plan their maternity leave. It can also be used by healthcare providers or employers to help educate women about their maternity leave benefits. The tool describes the health benefits of taking maternity leave, encourages women to consider options for taking leave, lists questions to ask employers, discusses the different types of leave that are available, talks about job protection and includes web and phone resources for more information.
