It’s never fun being sick, especially for babies. They can’t tell you what hurts or what’s making them feel badly or what would make them feel better.
Learn the signs of common illnesses, like colds, ear infections or the flu. And find out what you can do to care for your sick baby. If you’re worried about your baby’s health, call his health care provider. Know when your baby needs 911 emergency care, like if she’s having a seizure or breathing trouble.
Make an emergency care plan for your baby. This plan includes information, like any health conditions or allergies your baby has, any medicines she takes, the names of her health care providers and the hospital where you’d like your baby to get treated in case of an emergency. Ask your baby's provider to help you develop it. Keep copies of the plan in your home and give a copy to anyone who cares for your baby.
