The work of the March of Dimes Alabama Chapter is made possible by our many volunteers, donors and supporters. Thank you for giving your time, energy and money. Thank you for lending your voice to support the health of babies and fight to end prematurity.
The March of Dimes speaks out for laws and legislation that improve care for women and children in Alabama and across the country. Our team of grassroots volunteers and staff promote the mission agenda by contacting the governor and state legislators in response to Alabama action alerts. Whether promoting increased health care coverage and prevention measures or supporting research and public policy studies.
If you are a long-time March of Dimes supporter or just giving for the first time, we could not work to save babies and support families without the generosity and commitment of people like YOU. Your donation supports programs in your community that help moms have healthy pregnancies and gives every baby a fighting chance. It also provides comfort, information and support to families with a newborn in the intensive care unit (NICU).
Our work is made possible by thousands of volunteers. There are many ways to assist us in helping babies, moms and families close to home. You can take part in selling sponsorship opportunities, recruiting new volunteers, coordinating outreach to mission families, serving on our Advocacy and Government Affairs Committee, assisting with marketing communications or public relations and much more. Currently we also need the following volunteers:
March for Babies: Volunteers are needed in communities across the state to help make calls to previous family teams, sell sponsorship opportunities to local companies, recruit new fundraising walk teams, plan recruitment and stewardship events, write thank you notes to some top partners, and recruit volunteers to plan and assist with walk day activities. Special Events: There are many opportunities available for involvement with some of our exciting Signature Chefs Auctions, as well as the Birmingham Golf for Babies Tournament and/or our annual Blue Jeans for Babies t-shirt campaign. Join one of the planning committees or help the day of the event. Contact Us.
Program Services: Seeking volunteers statewide to coordinate outreach to mission families and to plan and implement activities for these families; to represent the March of Dimes at community events, such as health fairs; to maintain inventory and re-stock NICU Family Support Centers at hospitals; to assist with planning and implementation of Prematurity Awareness Month (November)/World Prematurity Day (Nov. 17) outreach and events; and to assist with planning and logistics of professional and public health education initiatives. We need individuals with good organizational skills, good communication skills, and who enjoy working with others. We also need individuals with maternal/child health, public health, rural health, social work, or grant writing experience to assist with our professional committees and activities. Advocacy and Government Affairs: Seeking professionals statewide to serve on our Advocacy and Government Affairs Committee and/or our Program Services Committee. Individuals with maternal/child health, public health, social work, legislative, and/or advocacy experience are needed to assist with advancing March of Dimes advocacy priorities in Alabama. Volunteers must have a willingness to learn about the legislative/regulatory process in the state. Activities include developing relationships with legislators and local elected officials, participating in legislative visits or meetings, and identifying issues and developing strategies to advance the chapter’s advocacy priorities. Communications: Seeking communications professionals to help with marketing communications/public relations planning, graphic design and layout, writing, editing and proofreading, and media planning. A variety of short and long-term positions are available to assist with projects to build awareness of the March of Dimes and support fundraising events. Some on-site meetings may be required, but work may be completed outside of the March of Dimes office. Contact Kira Gilbert.
Graphic Designers: We need graphic designers who can modify files created with InDesign, Publisher, Adobe and other programs to help create newsletters, ads, and collateral materials. Contact Kira Gilbert and/or Riley (McDuff) Bridges.
